Faculty of History

Economic and Social History - The Faculty offers two programmes in this area of study, a one-year M.Sc. and a two-year M.Phil.

M.Phil. in Economic and Social History

This two-year specialist programme offers a unique framework for research training in economic and social history.  It offers a wide range of options and allows students to specialize in economic and/or social history, or historical demography, although the boundaries between these areas are deliberately permeable. The core qualifying papers provide an opportunity to evaluate a range of different approaches; they impart a common language, and create a close and friendly community, in which ideas are shared, and strong personal ties are forged, developing a community that provides a base from which to venture out and experience the other rewards of Oxford, intellectual, social, and cultural.

The programme comprises:

The Oxford 1MSc +1 MBA programme offers high calibre applicants the opportunity to apply to both the MBA and MSc programmes at the same time, and to undertake a two-year Oxford postgraduate experience that combines the depth of study of an MSc, with the managerial and leadership breadth of an MBA. In this partnership, you will be required to complete the MSc in Economic and Social History followed by the 12 month MBA programme (subject to institutional approval). The benefits of the 1+1 MBA programme at Oxford are unique:

Candidates wishing to apply to the Oxford 1+1 MBA programme need to complete an application form for their chosen MSc programme and the Oxford MBA application form.

The Pershing Square Foundation has endowed up to five fully funded Scholarships each year for the MBA component of the 1+1 programme. The Oxford Pershing Square Graduate Scholars Programme will help extraordinary individuals to develop and realise their potential as future global leaders.
