Master's programmes offered by the History Faculty and their duration

Late Antique and Byzantine Studies (M.St. and M.Phil.)
This programme provides research training for candidates with particular interest in the Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cultures from c. 300 to the fifteenth century.
Duration - M.Phil.: 21 months (1 October 2012 to 30 June 2014); M.St.: 9 months (1 October 2012 to 30 June 2013)

Medieval History (M.St.)
This programme provides research training for candidates with particular interest in the cultural, political and religious history of the medieval West.

Duration - 11 months (1 October 2012 to 31 August 2013)

Medieval Studies (M.St.)
This programme provides research training for candidates with particular interest in interdisciplinary exploration of the medieval cultural heritage.

Duration - 9 months (
1 October 2012 to 30 June 2013)

Modern British and European History (M.St. and M.Phil.)
This programme provides research training for candidates who wish to progress to research on an area or period of British and European history since c. 1500.

Duration - M.Phil.: 21 months (1 October 2012 to 30 June 2014); M.St.: 9 months (1 October 2012 to 30 June 2013)

Global and Imperial History (M.St.)
This programme provides research training for candidates with particular interest in the history of the Middle East, Africa, South Asia, East Asia, the Americas (excluding the US) and Australasia. 

Duration - 9 months (1 October 2012 to 30 June 2013)

Modern South Asian Studies (M.St.)
This programme provides research training for candidates with particular interest in the histories, societies and cultures of South Asia and neighbouring regions; the programme includes intensive training in one of the languages of South Asia.

Duration - 9 months (1 October 2012 to 30 June 2013)

US History (M.St.)
This programme provides research training for candidates with particular interest in the history of the United States of America, and the colonies that preceded it, since 1600. 

Duration - 9 months (1 October 2012 to 30 June 2013)

History of Art and Visual Culture (M.St.)
This programme provides research training for candidates with particular interest in the history of art and cultural iconography since the late Middle Ages.

Duration - 9 months (1 October 2012 to 30 June 2013)

Economic and Social History (M.Sc. and M.Phil.)
This programme provides research training for candidates with particular interest in, or need for the incorporation of Social Sciences methodologies into their historical studies.

Duration - M.Phil.: 21 months (1 October 2012 to 30 June 2014); M.Sc.: 12 months (1 October 2012 to 30 September 2013)

History of Science, Medicine, and Technology (M.Sc. and M.Phil.) This programme provides research training for candidates with particular interest in either the history of medicine or the history of science, technology, and instrumentation.
